'ST 007 PC-DATA'
User's Guide
1.Purpose.
ST 007 PC-DATA is an application intended for working with the ST 007 field detector v. 3.0 and above.
The application allows for:
-
displaying graphical information about the operation of the ST 007 in real time;
-
loading and displaying the log;
-
displaying graphical and text information about the operation of the ST 007 in the Monitoring mode;
-
total control of the ST 007 from PC.
2. System requirements.
-
Windows XP, Windows Me, Windows 2000, and Windows 98 operating systems;
-
Pentium II or better processor;
-
screen resolution of 1024 x 768 or higher;
-
minimum 32 MB of available RAM;
-
minimum 50 MB of free disk space (depending on the amount of collected data).
3. Installing and launching the software.
To install the software launch the file 'Setup_ST007.exe' and follow the onscreen instruction.
To launch the installed application go to Start -> All Programs and choose ST 007.
You will be presented with a 'Before launching the application' dialog. Here you need to choose the number of the COM port, to which the ST 007 is attached, as well as the level of complexity of the interface. Choose 'Normal' or 'Expert'. To familiarize yourself with the controls, we recommend choosing 'Normal'. Hereafter, information pertaining to the Expert mode will be set in blue text.
It is necessary to switch the ST 007 on after launching the application in order for the PC to establish a link with the device.
If you are experiencing problems with the software seeing the device, following these troubleshooting steps:
-
switch the ST 007 completely off (make sure the display backlight is off) and switch it back on;
-
if the above does not solve the problem, connect the data cable to another COM port and repeat the above step;
-
make sure that other applications are not using the chosen COM port an (application for communicating with Pocket PCs may be blocking the COM port by default; use the settings of the application to release the COM port).
4.Description of the interface.
After clicking OK in the 'Before launching the application' dialog, the main window of the application will open with four resizable sections.
The upper part of the window features four buttons described below:
-
Download and save log. Loads and saves the event log recorded earlier by the ST 007 in the Monitoring mode;
-
Default settings. Resets the settings of the application to their defaults;
-
Help. Opens a windows with brief instruction for operating the application;
-
About:. Shows the version of the application.
Bottom left of the window.
The bottom left section of the window displays the virtual controls of the ST 007. When the devices is connected to the PC,it allows you to take full control over the ST 007 with the exception of the EXIT, ENTER, and
<- buttons.
Clicking 'MENU' will open the 'Full ST 007 menu' dialog window, which gives you access to changing any settings of the real device. The Menu can be stored on the hard disk (Save Menu button) and loaded from a file (Load Menu). The menu files use the extension '.mn7'.
Bottom right of the window.
When the ST 007 is connected to a PC, this section displays data from the ST 007 in relation to time.
The upper part of the section contains two buttons: 'Save real-time accumulated data' and 'New data'.
Clicking the 'Save real-time accumulated data' saves the results of the operation of the ST 007 to a file (see 'Upper right of the window'). Each subsequent click will overwrite the existing file with augmented data.
Clicking 'New data' will reinitiate the data collection process.
The following is displayed in this section (from top to bottom):
-
L1 - the graph representing the level of the top level meter of the ST 007. The zero level is indicated with a dotted line;
-
L2 - the graph representing the level of the top level meter of the ST 007. The zero level is indicated with a dotted line;
-
histogram of DECT, GSM, Bluetooth, and WLAN signals;
-
histogram of the captured frequency (CAPT) with the frequency value.
The horizontal axis shows time in the format hh:mm:ss. The scale of the horizontal axis can be changed from 00:03 to 24:00 (hh:mm) using the 'Full axis scale' parameter.
To the right from the vertical axis are the values of the amplitude of the top and bottom level meters in dB. You can change the scale of the axis from 15 to 60 dB using the 'Full axis scale' parameter.
If the time for collecting data increases the value set for the entire axis, a horizontal scroll bar will appear in the lower part of the diagram. If you move the slider of the scroll bar to the far right, the contents of the diagram will update automatically along with a half of the graph moving to the left.
The type of the signal, its frequency (if present), and level will be displayed next to the mouse pointer.
The time and level of the signal directly under the mouse will be displayed in the upper portion of the segment.
When you move the mouse inside the graph, its position is followed by a vertical and horizontal dotted lines. Left-clicking and moving the mouse draws additional dotted lines, against which the difference in time and amplitude can be registered. The difference is displayed as 'd=...' in the upper part of the section.
Top left of the window.
The top left of the window shows a database file tree.
Two types of files can be displayed.
The first type of files (with a yellow icon) are created when you click 'Download and save log' in the top left of the window. These files contain even logs previously recorded by the ST 007 in the Monitoring mode. Each bank of events is saved to a separate file. The files are named automatically using the following name template 'dd_mm_hh_mm.007' (day, month, hour, and minute of the first event in the bank).
The second type of files (with a green icon) are created when you click ' Save real-time accumulated data' in the bottom right section of the main window. The files are named automatically using the following name template 'dd_mm_hh_mm.007' (day, month, hour, and minute of the first event) and contain the entire information downloaded from the ST 007 in real time (approximately 2-3 measurements per second). Right-clicking the file name lets you rename or delete the file or create a new folder.
Top right of the window.
The top right section of the window displays data from the file from the database in graphical (the 'Diagram' tab) or list (the 'List' tab) view. To view the information in a file, select it in the top right section of the window by left-clicking it.
The controls of the 'Diagram' tab are similar to those of the bottom right section,
with the following exceptions:
-
initially, the time scale when displaying information corresponds to the full operation time.
-
when displaying files of the first type (see description of the upper left section) addition information is displayed next to the pointer (max. seven lines): event number, time of the beginning of event, event duration, top level meter, bottom level meter, signal type (if available), and frequency of the captured signal (if present). The line with the parameter that caused the event will blink.
It is possible to apply filters to the files of the second type with parameters set in the 'Filter settings' dialog (the 'Filter On' checkbox) and save filter presets to a file with the '.fl7' extension. You can also load filter presets from the menu file ('.mn7'). The 'Number' field indicates the number of events that satisfy filtering conditions. When the 'Filter On' checkbox is set, you can view these events in the diagram or the list.
The 'List' tab displays the event log from the files of the first type.
If the 'Filter On' checkbox is set, it will also displays the events from the files of the second type that that satisfy filtering conditions. The parameter that caused the event is highlighted in blue. To sort events in decreasing or increasing order, click the header of the column with the desired parameter with a '^' next to it.
In the Monitoring mode, an antenna icon will appear in the system tray next to the clock. It will blink red allowing you to monitor the events even of the main window is minimized or obscured by the widows of other running applications.
Additional information.
All the settings of the application altered by the user, such as COM port number, size and position of the sections within the main window, etc., are stored in the ST007.dat file and will be restored next time you launch the application. To reset all the settings to their defaults, click the 'Default settings' buttons at the top of the window.
